Who Is Eligible for Medicare?

Most people qualify for Medicare when they turn 65. You’re eligible if:

  • You are 65 or older and a U.S. citizen or legal resident (for at least five years)
  • You’re under 65 and have received Social Security Disability benefits for at least 24 months
  • You have a qualifying medical condition, such as End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) or ALS

If you’re unsure about your eligibility, we’re happy to review your situation and point you in the right direction.

Understanding Enrollment Timelines

Your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) is the most important window to be aware of. It lasts for seven months—beginning three months before your 65th birthday month and ending three months after. Enrolling during this time ensures you get coverage without late penalties or delays.

If you’re already receiving Social Security, you may be enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B automatically. Otherwise, you’ll need to sign up manually, and it’s important not to miss that window.

Some people may also qualify for:

  • General Enrollment Period (Jan 1 – Mar 31) if they missed their IEP
  • Special Enrollment Periods due to events like losing employer coverage or moving to a new area

These timelines can be tricky, but we can help you determine where you fall and what action to take next.

We’re Here to Guide You

When you’re ready to explore your plan options, we’ll help you understand:

  • What plans are available in your area
  • Whether your preferred doctors and prescriptions are covered
  • How different plan types affect your monthly costs and benefits

What Happens If You Miss Your Enrollment Window?

Missing your IEP doesn’t mean you’re out of options, but it can result in delays or penalties if you don’t act quickly.

If your enrollment period has passed, we can help you:

  • Determine if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period
  • Prepare for the next General Enrollment Period
  • Understand any late enrollment penalties that may apply

It’s always better to check early, and we’re happy to help you get back on track.
